Depending on when you are reading this, HAVE A GREAT BREAK!! Or, I HOPE YOUR BREAK was AMAZING!!!!
The Winter ESL Institute was incredible. Special thanks to Cammy Goucher and Diane Mora for providing some terrific strategies and ideas. We learn best from our peers, and that day was no exception. Spring Institute is tentatively scheduled for April 22, so save the date. If you’d like to share, let me know.
I was fortunate enough to be able to attend a CAL training recently called “Newcomers in Your School.” The St. Louis MELL team is bringing the training to St. Louis. It is a very good workshop and I would highly recommend it. If you can’t take two days and go to St. Louis, I will be sharing what I learned on February 19 in Springfield.
A quick comparison between NCLB, ESEA waiver and ESSA can be found here.
An article from the Migrant Policy Institute about what the new legislation means for ELs can be found here.
NOELA has finally updated and redesigned their website. Here is the Missouri information on ELLs. It is very interesting and graphics heavy, which make things easy to understand.
An new article with case studies called “Giving English Learners the Time they Need to Succeed” is here.
An application for a scholarship for migrant kids can be found here.
If you receive title III funding, AMAO improvement plans are due to me on April 30, 2016. I will be sending out the new form shortly.
WIDA’s National Conference will be in Philadelphia, October 12-15. Call for proposals is now open. Missouri Federal programs conference is September 25-27. YOU MUST PRESENT (I’m using the force- my Jedi skills are a little rusty).
If you need an excuse to become tearful, watch this.
Thanks for all you do,
